2/11/'07, Awlright, well I have been working on my Boat for some time now,
I havent had anything to really take pictures of hence no posts, I will try to remedy that and snap a photo here and there.
Ok well I have been building my Mast box and installing my Gussets to attatch the sides to,
Here are a few photos... Welcome to my Mess
...
I installed the Cockpit rear Wall...
I had some trouble with the cockpit rear, the pressure pulled a few screws out of the stringer, so I drilled a hole through the deck and stringer, and used washers and a bolt to pull the deck down (lots of pressure) I thickened some epoxy and used some larger screws, so far so good it hasn't pulled out yet.
Here is a view from the lazzeret...
Here is one of the mast box (not yet glued) but in place... Here are a few more photos...
Ok well, the plan is to install the bits that I made, and install the Mastbox permenantly as well. and sand the gussets so that the sides will lay Watertight and true.
Thats all fer' now, I will try to update the site more often (probably next weekend)
Brian.
2/18/'07 Well this Week I got a few things accomplished I got my Mast box permenently attatched to the boat, I got my Bits installed as well...
Sorry the photos are slightly dark...
I got some fairing done , Sanding the bulkheads down to fit with the side gussets, if all goes well I should be able to start, or maybe even finish the sides next week end.
I do have some more fairing to do but should be able to Knock that out after work nights this coming week. I've been messing with this thing for the last week and a half Thinking I had a center issue as in the mast box did not appear to be centered properly, Measurements weren't lining up correctly and it pretty much was just a case of thinking to much. When I cut out my deck panneles one of my center cuts vered off just slightly to the right causing my mast box to not look correct I thought the worst, My keel was off, or the bulkheads were off center,
Finally I looked at it and saw the problem and was like oh, ok, everything is centered correctly, the cut is slightly off (big deal), so I permenantly attatched everything all the worry for not, Oh well better to be safe I guess. Thats all fer now.
Brian.
Awlright, Well I've been working on the boat all weekend, I spent all day yesterday fairing, tipping the boat over, and rough cutting all my side pannels, (I am one pannel short)
Yep thats right, When I modified the Cock pit wall I didn't take into account that I would need the piece for the rear pannel, Oh well I guess I have to figure out where I can get one sheet of 1/4" Merenti marine plyewood. And today I began installing the sides I didn't get as far as I wanted to but I was Single handing it today
I got Two pannels on the port side, then we had thundershowers and unreal wind,so I did not get done with it, but thats ok I can work on it after work and get it done this week.
Any way heres some photos...
Had some trouble with the bit hole It's all beter now that I filled it Bd blended it in.
And here are some side shots...
Well thats all for this week, I will be working on the rest of the side pannels during the week as time permits, My head smells like a Salad, I got Epoxy in my hair and Vinegar gets it out, So I poured some in my hair and voila.
Well I will Take some photos of my progress this week and post next week.
Brian.
Well, this week ,I cut out some construction foam to put in my forward compartment for some positive flotation, plus it will deaden the water slapping the bow as well as insulate the Boat.
Lesse, I also calked and sealed the forward compartment, then I Epoxyed the Same aria, Then I painted said aria with two coats of white paint. I also installed the last side piece for the port side
speaking of which I also have to go to columbia next saturday to pick up the last sheet of 1/4" Merenti for the starboard rear side pannel, if your from South Carolina and need good wood go to Boozer lumber in Columbia, they can get it all, Their salesman Tim really helped me out.
Anyway here are a couple of photos...this is right After I calked and Epoxyed...
And here is where I painted the forward compartment...
And here is where I added the construction foam...
and here is a random shot of the deck/side...
Well, thats all for now, During the week I am going to maybe start the starboard side, And if I do not do it untill next weekend, I plan to maybe try my hand at fiberglassing the foam pannels I made for the forward compartment.
Wish Me luck, Oh yeah! Next Saturday is St. pattys day,
lottsa
luck o' the Irish
, and if not plenty of good Beer to wash away my sorrows
Happy St. Patty's Day
Brian.
Well it is now march 29th, so far I have installed the foam in the bow and began installing the starboardside, so the bow is completely enclosed, (I will take some photos soon) I did finaly get the rear pannel but not what I had planned, I got a phonecall from the lumberyard that they could not get the Merenti that I need, so I remembered a place Called Marine Lumber Supply down in Charlston that I got some quotes from before, I called Matt who remembered me from a year ago, which I thought was pretty cool,And he told me he didn't really carry Merenti, and the closest thing he had to it was Ocume, so I drove 2hrs down to charlston to get it. I really havent had any access to Exotic or marine type Lumber, So matt gave me the grand tour showing me all the exotic lumber and Explaning the differant species, and he has some good deals as well. man that place is awsome ,I was like a Crow in a Cornfield, I got some really good ideas for my Boat and a couple of hunks of Mahogany
to make some Blocks from, My Wife even got a hunk of Teak for the stained glass she's making. I am definetly going back down to do the trim on my boat.
I will post some pic's soon,
Brian.
Ok, Well this Week I cut out my mast hole in the deck, and also measured and cut out my forward Hatch, Then I installed the second starboard side pannel, finnished out the lazerete, Installed flotation, and I have to install the 2"x4" for the steering system pulley before I install the last pannel, Here's some photos...
These are of the starboard side pannel above, and one from the front...
What a mess,
thats all for this week.
Brian.
Ok well I havent done a bunch in a few weeks, I have the sides done but you knew that, I also have been making the gussets for the deck supports, and I have made the stringers that will hold the cabin walls on as well, I should be geting them on this week at some point, and I would like to get the cabin walls on this weekend wee will see. but thats it fer now I will post as I complete each task.
Brian
Well I have been working on the boat here on and off, I fabricated the deck and wall supports in the cabin, and installed them to the deck, the sides, and the bottom floor stringers. Then I made the deck and cabin wall stringers, and installed them.
Then I made the forward cabin wall and upper stringer and installed them as well. not moving along as fast as I would like, but still moving along and making progress.
Here are some pictures, not good ones I will get some better ones soon.
Thats all for now more to come.
Brian.
